GreenH2@Work Employee Spotlight: Marissa Eagan
Marissa Eagan is a GenDrive Production Planner at Plug, serving as the key link between various departments. In her words, “I spend a lot of time coordinating between our Production, Sales, Finance, Engineering, Purchasing, and Logistics Teams to make sure our units can be built, tested, and shipped to our customers.”
A New Adventure at Plug
Marissa’s career path took a turn when she decided to leave the construction and real estate development world. “I was looking for an environment that would excite and challenge me, and that is when I stumbled upon Plug,” she says. The hydrogen field was completely new to her, but she was drawn to the company’s innovative spirit.
Nearly Three Years and Counting
Marissa has been with Plug since January 2022. She finds pride in working for a company that aims to make a lasting impact on the planet. “What drew me to Plug is you can really see the long-term impacts the company can have and its trajectory,” she says.
A Memorable Early Career Twist
Soon after graduating college, Marissa joined her first company that experienced a major building fire within her first six weeks. “Growing up as a firefighter’s daughter, it was the first time my personal and professional life crossed paths as my dad’s department helped extinguish the fire,” she recalls. Faced with leading a large insurance claim process, she realized she could handle far more than she imagined. “This really taught me there is not much I cannot handle,” she says.
Staying Flexible Amid Challenges
In her role, Marissa sometimes needs to pivot quickly. This can be difficult for someone who describes herself as very Type-A, but she reminds herself to look at the bigger picture. “I try to focus on the end-goal and use that as motivation,” she explains. This approach helps her avoid tunnel vision and stay on track, even when plans change at the last minute.
Excited About Hydrogen
Marissa is proud to be part of a company that is moving the world toward a cleaner future. “I take a lot of pride in being part of a company that will eventually have such a positive effect on the planet and lessen our dependency on fossil fuels,” she says. She believes the potential for hydrogen and fuel cells is enormous.
Keep Going, Keep Growing
For Marissa, mistakes and unexpected hurdles are opportunities to learn and grow. She holds onto the idea of “Keep Going, Keep Growing.” On her birthday each year, she looks back at her accomplishments and feels grateful for how far she has come. This past year, she purchased her first home. “While it did not come without hardships, I can now look back and appreciate what it took to get here,” she says.
A Home to Cherish
Marissa and her boyfriend recently bought her grandmother’s house, a beloved childhood place for her. They have been renovating everything from the carpets to the kitchen. “It has been exciting to breathe new life into a well-loved home and make it our own,” she says.
Marissa’s journey reflects how persistence, a willingness to adapt, and a focus on the bigger picture can propel a person’s career and personal life forward. She embodies the spirit of Plug by always finding ways to learn, grow, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
