H2@Work Employee Spotlight: Sanket Bhavsar
Sanket works in the ELX vertical at Plug, focusing on the process design of the EX2125D V2, a 5 MW hydrogen generation system. He also supports product teams, assists clients with queries, and helps the commissioning team during start-ups. Recently, he completed commissioning of a smaller unit for a research institute in the Netherlands.

A Passion for Clean Energy
Sanket became a chemical engineer with the goal of reducing pollution. He pursued post-graduate studies in carbon capture and later joined Frames (currently Plug Power Inc), where he worked on electrolyzer projects and Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier technology. When Frames was acquired by Plug, he saw the perfect chance to keep working on sustainable energy solutions.
Energy Transition Excitement
For Sanket, being part of the global energy transition is the most extraordinary experience of his career. He acknowledges that fossil fuels won’t phase out overnight but believes the knowledge gained during this shift will be vital for the future. “It’s a dynamic and challenging transition, and that’s what makes it exciting,” he says.
Overcoming Complex Challenges
One of Sanket’s biggest challenges came when a plant he designed did not meet product purity expectations, causing frustration for a client with export commitments. After analyzing site data, he discovered the issue stemmed from incorrect thermodynamic data in the database. To minimize losses, he implemented a temporary solution that allowed the plant to operate at a lower capacity with guaranteed purity. Later, he designed and integrated larger equipment to restore the plant’s full capacity. “I handled it by maintaining complete transparency with the client, providing a quick solution, and using fundamental knowledge to challenge the data and correct the mistake,” he explains.
Driving Innovation in Hydrogen
Sanket is excited about the rapid development of ELX technology. He sees many opportunities to innovate and optimize, and he is motivated by the chance to create cleaner energy solutions that benefit the planet.
A Responsibility to Nature
Sanket believes every person has a duty to protect and restore the natural balance. He feels humans have used Earth’s resources heavily and must now work to heal the damage. Every small step matters in making a positive difference.
Hiking, Collecting, and Learning
Away from work, Sanket enjoys hiking in the Sahyadri mountain range near Pune. He also collects coins and currencies from over 100 countries. In addition, he loves learning new languages and scripts, always looking for ways to explore and grow.
